Modules 14 and 15, combined

Modules 14 and 15 contained much the same information, so they are posted here as the singular “module 15″. The key points are related to unsymmetric bending. The small aside about product of inertia which is certainly useful but not compulsory for you to fully understand. Moreover, I think the discussion we had in class about the difference in inertia of the I-beam vs. the H-beam was probably more instructive than the lecture notes.

Nonetheless, it bears repeating one more time that the equations in the book are derived based upon a very specific sign convention, and you would do well to examine pages 323-324 to understand the convention. This will allow you to apply the equations in the book straight-away.
