UPDATE (2/22/08): THE EXAM LOCATION HAS CHANGED…THE EXAM WILL BE ADMINISTERED IN E303 THORNTON HALL!

Exam 1 will take place on Monday Feb. 25 from 7-9 pm in MEC 205. Obviously the exam is pledged, and here are some things to think about:

  • Bring a pencil, eraser, and calculator. I will supply paper. Sloppy work written in ink and scribbled all over will not be graded.
  • You can bring 1 8.5 x 11 in. sheet of paper with writing on 1 side only. This sheet can contain any information you want or think you might need. Note that things like material properties will be provided, so there’s no need to copy the information from the back of the book.
  • Coverage is as follows: Ch. 1 (all), Ch. 2 (all), Ch. 3 (Secs. 3.1-3.4, plus 3.6), Ch. 4 (Secs. 4.1-4.5, plus 4.7)
  • Problems will be in the same spirit at the homework, and may be problems directly from our book (so, as always, it pays to prepare by doing lots of problems).

I may have forgotten some items here, so if you have any questions, attach a comment to this post and I will answer.

professor berger, I know in the past for exams you have given us some sort of clue on the types of problems to expect. Like last semester you mentioned, expect a shear and moment problem on the exam. Is there anything you can tell us about what problems to expect on this exam?

All I can say is: (i) exam will reflect the HW, (ii) expect four real problems, plus maybe a fifth “short answer” type question. Other than that not sure (haven’t written the exam yet :-) ).

Professor Berger, I was wondering if you could send us various solutions to problems like you did last semester for statics to study from. They were very helpful, thanks.
