This problem was considered in class today, quite briefly, and I took some time to work through both the “method of sections” approach (Sec. 4.4 of the text, including Ex. 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8) and the “superposition” approach (what our book calls the “force method” in Sec. 4.5 and Ex. 4.9). Have a look and spend some time thinking about this problem, and then try to apply it to Prob. 4-41 from class today.
