In the original post about the project, I had some advice about how to actually construct your podcast–what technologies and software you might use, and what guidelines you should follow, etc. Well, here’s a little more information.
- Unless you have significant experience using specific software, you can’t beat GarageBand for ease of use. It’s available at the DML, it’s easy and intuitive, and we can arrange for you to get some training on the software through the DML staff.
- Attribution is absolutely critical. You must give a complete list of all the resources you used in constructing your podcast. This includes web addresses of images, text, or data, plus credits for any soundtrack that you include. Almost all the submissions from last year show good practices of attribution. Your two basic choices: either embed links on each image in the podcast (like my example), or show a list of credits at the end of the podcast.
- To help organize your research and develop your storyboard, I can warmly recommend Google Notebook. This video shows you why.
- Don’t wait until the last minute.
Remember, your storyboards are due on Wednesday 11/7. I expect these storyboards to be about 80% final. This means that certainly some of the information can change as you finish your podcast, but your final podcast should very strongly resemble your storyboard.
