And now for Ch. 7…here’s Prob. 7-7 and three for Prob. 7-51. For Prob. 7-51, do you think all of these are correct? Feel free to discuss with comments on this post…

Well maybe i am a bit baised, but i feel that mine is right and the other twos graphs don’t seem to be quite right, the moment one should be zero at end points, and in that is parabolic with a maximum in the middle, the sheer should cross zero when the moment is at a max or min.

I sort of feel like the moment should be NON-zero at the end points, since there is an externally-applied moment there…anyone else want to comment?

I agree that the externally applied moment should make the moment non-zero at the end points. From what I can decipher, all the solutions actually got the same (and correct) moment equation, but two of them graphed it wrong. Katie’s solution is the only one that correctly drew the graph of the moment (starting and ending at -150lb*ft).

Nice! I told you it’s always step 5…and this is an excellent lesson for everyone. Good work to our three solution submitters (who got the equations right), kudos to Katie for getting it all right, and let’s all use this as a gentle reminder about our procedures. Well done!
