Today’s module focuses pretty specifically on (i) FBD construction, and (ii) developing equilibrium expressions directly from the FBDs. This is a very under-appreciated idea: that the equilibrium equations and FBDs work together and one flows from the other. So, drawing FBDs is not just some form of engineering hazing…instead, it’s the basis on which we build our equilibrium analysis. We really need to master this very important skill.
So download it and have a look, and then refer back to it later if you have questions or confusion as you work on your homework. You can also Google “free body diagram” or other searches to find more resources.
