Research Description:

I am a Graduate Student in the Rissman lab, enrolled in July 2005 as a part of an international program. I work with Sasha on a project focused on determining the role of the most highly conserved form of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), namely GnRH-II, in the feeding and sexual behaviour of female musk shrew.

It is known that GnRH-II has an impact on interactions between feeding, energy and reproduction. The evaluation of mechanisms involved in control of reproductive behaviour in a simple mammal – the musk shrew – can help us understand the function of GnRH-II in other mammals as well as in humans.

Specifically, I am going to concentrate on interactions between GnRH-II and other neuropeptides, like neuropeptide Y, galanin, urocortin and corticotrophin-releasing hormone, in the brain of ad lib and food restricted shrew females.
