Return to the Main Lobby (Home Page) Installations on the Second Floor are still in progress Unlike the galleries elsewhere on this site, all of the exhibits on the second floor are united by their geography and their chronological place in Burgess's development as an artist. Each of the more than 200 photographs on display were captured in the vicinity of Charlottesville, Virginia, from 1997 to the present day. By and large, they don't benefit from any grand artisitc theme, rather they are simply photographs for the sake of photographing. The shaded galleries have complete exhibits. Unshaded galleries are open, but are not fully functional. Some exhibits may be deleted, or replaced without notice. In many cases, the full range of photographs from any given location are presented. Some photographers will only post one, image from a session, however, Burgess appreciates being able to show a more complete picture of the photographic experience, as if the act of photography was as important as the photograph, itself. And it is. According to Burgess, there is a therapy involved, a delving into the unseen and unknown that may be experienced by the viewer by exposure to the whole of what attracted him to a particular subject. While some of the photographs might be more visually appealing than others, all of them reflect Burgess' attitude towards the subject, and chronicle his experience with it. Plans for a third floor dome include a "best of" gallery. |
