BIO: from biology (science of life) -- SQUAT: to settle on unoccupied land
biosquat (verb): a form of conscious living in harmony w/whole ecosystems involving reparations
Biosquat (noun): a social and ecological experiment in Austin Texas

from junk to gem:
an experiment in alternative forms of
living, building, cooking, eating, gardening, activism, socializing

tucked into an east austin neighborhood, backed by 100s of acres of forest, on a hill overlooking the city

core infrastructure includes bike shop, metal shop, communal kitchen, shared power resource, rainwater collection, solar cooking, extensive raised gardens, and individual micro-residences

like the lotus growing from muck, biosquat is built on trashed, neglected land

design/building emphasis placed on natural materials such as clay, straw, stone, bamboo, wood;
recycled material like bicycles, urbanite, leftover building supplies, & whatever comes our way

closing the loop

inspired by the Humanure Handbook by Joseph Jenkins (link)

in the spirit of recycling and re-using, we turn waste into nutrient rich composted fertilizer

(flow-though design by d.santos)

Stone-faced nuevo-mayan

salvaged urbanite (illegally dumped on our land) is a rich mix of concrete chunks, carved limestone, bricks, clay tiles, granite, etc...
(the waste of urban renewal)

also locally harvested red clay 'ready mix' : a fine blend of sand and clay : just add water

This communal firepit has endured years of heavy rain, variant temperatures/humidity, and human use/abuse
