BIOL 533 - Molecular Techniques in Population Genetics and Systematics

A laboratory course to familiarize students with DNA techniques that are most commonly used in evolutionary biology (RFLPs, Microsatellites, Sequencing) and their application to field studies of population genetic structure, mating systems, paternity and the historical analysis of lineages. The lecture component will focus on which techniques are appropriate for different research objectives, on the statistical analysis of data and on phylogenetic reconstruction within and among species.
