Problems with online rants
I guess the biggest one is that they seem, at least for me, very hard to keep up. Not from lack of interest, but rather from lack of facility. I'm still waiting for the day when thoughts can go immediately to/from machine. But unfortunatley for now, there's a large interruption between thoughts and getting them into my Emacs buffer.
The other issue I'm starting to have with online journals/rants/whatever-you-call-them is that they smack of self pretention. I mean, who the hell cares? I guess in an ideal world, we could ALL have little online soapboxes. But just the same ...
Related to the lat point is the lack of dialog. Unless you put up a full blown BBS on your site, there's little space for feedback. But doing that smacks of even greater pretention. A personal BBS? Oh man.
Maybe I'm getting disillusioned with the web, or more precisely with my own web page (it needs a serious update), or maybe just in a melancholy mood today. Regardless, I felt like I needed to put something into this rant/rave section on my little page since I've neglected it for so long.
