I hope this will be the first of many.  Of course, everyone should be familiar with the "fortune" program.  There are also several great quote books out there.  I just came accross this on a fellow developer's page.  It reminded me of the first time I ever read Emerson ... and how it filled my soul with excitement, optimism and joy.  His words always seem to ring of truth.  Mental note:  dig out old poetry books. I don't know how RWE formatted the below, but the following seemed to make sense.

To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

It'd be great to memorize that and repeat it every day as a mantra.  Long mantras are hard though.
