Catching Some Great Music |
Each summer Blandy hosts three or four Saturday night concerts that feature local music acts. Music varies from folk and bluegrass to blues and rock-and-roll. In the summer of 2005 an "open-mic" night was added, and since then Blandy's talented REU students have used the opportunity to show their stuff. Pictured here, Molly Albecker (University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA), Jake Langeslag (Minnesota State, Mankato), and Dhyana Miller (on fiddle from Hampshire College, Amherst, MA) prepare to launch into a heartfelt rendition of John Denver's Country Roads. The town of Winchester, just 9 miles away, features regular Friday night concerts as part of the Bluemont Concert Series. A little further away is Wolf Trap, the only National Park dedicated to the performing arts, and, of course, the Washington metro area is home to many other great music venues. |
