Technology Infusion Program (TIP)
What it is
Started in 1992, the Technology Infusion Program (TIP) has been a partnership between the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education and Albemarle County Public Schools. It is a program whose goal is to enrich the classroom experience of Albemarle County's students by integrating educational technologies into all areas of instruction.
The goal of TIP is twofold: while both the students and teachers of Albemarle County are exposed to the latest in educational technology as tools for learning and instruction, the Curry School students benefit as well. Each of the Curry School students are pre-service education majors who will have the opportunity to design technology-enriched lesson plans and be able to teach them in an actual K-12 setting under the guidance of a veteran teacher.
How it works
Each Curry School student enrolled in EDLF 545-Applied Teaching with Technology is matched up with an Albemarle County teacher who has filled out an application that demonstrates interest in educational technologies and willingness to make this commitment. The way this collaboration should work is as follows:
- Curry School students are expected to share knowledge of different technologies with the Albemarle County teacher
- The Albemarle County teacher is expected to share knowledge of the curriculum as well as proper classroom practices with the Curry School students
- The students and teachers work together to explore different lesson ideas that fit into the teacher's curriculum and the Virginia Standards of Learning while utilizing technology
Goals
Throughout the semester the Curry School students and Albemarle County teachers work toward a teaching module that incorporates various educational technologies. This module must be a joint decision of the student and Albemarle County teacher, as well as approved by the class instructor.
At the end of the course the Curry School student will put all of his or her work on a CD and give it to the teacher so that it can be used in the future.
