Supervise one full time OSS who does periodical claims
and generates checkins. Also hire, train, and supervise
50 hours of student library assistants who do on-line
checkin of periodicals. Solve various types of periodical
problems by communicating with vendors, publishers, and
location libraries at UVA.
1990-99 Library Assistant, Acquisitions, Periodical Supervisor
Supervised one half-time OSS, one full time OSS claims clerk,
and 60 hours of student employees who opened, checked in
on-line, and claimed approximately 9,000 periodicals and
serials for University of Virginia libraries. Solved
problems with vendors, publishers, concerning payments,
claims, etc.
1984-90 Library Assistant, Serials, cataloger, cataloged journals
including original cataloging of newspapers, microfilm, and
videos. Familiar with AACR2, OCLC, LC classification and
subject headings, and MARC.
1983-84 Clerk C, Kardex, checked in journals, processed new
orders, and searched unidentified mail.
1980-83 Clerk C, Government Docs, cataloged by accession
Virginia, United Nations, and International documents.
Answered reference questions, taught patrons how to use
reference sources, etc.
Languages: reading comprehension of Spanish, French, German, Italian.
Computer training and skills: classes in HTML and PERL. Familiar with
online library catalogs. Have trained large and small groups of staff
in serial related functions of on-line catalog. Have attended Sirsi users
group meetings.
Professional activities: ALA member, have attended ALA meetings for last
three years.
