John Mack Oboe Camp

The idea for the camp came from Joe Robinson, retired principal oboe with the New York Philharmonic. Joe studied with Marcel Tabuteau after he retired to France, and, given such remarkable training, he wanted a way for Tabuteau's methods and wisdom to be shared broadly. JM had come under Tabuteau's spell while rather young. He . Joe approached him, seeking to establish a means for Tabuteau's technique to be taught to oboists from varied backgrounds. The result was the John Mack Oboe Camp, which has been held at Wildacres Retreat, near Little Switzerland, NC. The camp was a resounding success and has been held each summer since that first occasion in 1976.
