Welcome to my home page.  I am the chief of diagnostic neuroradiology at theUniversity of Virginia Health Sciences Center.  Our division specializes in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology and Head and Neck radiology.  We perform all diagnostic neuroradiologic examinations, such as CT, MRI, diagnostic cerebral angiography, myelography, and percutaneous biopsy procedures of the head and neck, skull base, and spinal column.  Several of my colleagues specialize in the field of neurointerventional procedures.

I attended the US Air Force Academy (didn't much care for the regimentation), and subsequently attended Marshall University.  I attended medical school at MarshallUniversity in Huntington, WV.  Following completion of medical school,I spent 4 years in diagnostic radiology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.  I then spent the next 2 years in a neuroradiology fellowship, also here at the University of Virginia.  I was lucky enough to be recruited onto the faculty here, and have spent the subsequent 12 years working at the University Hospital.  I was trained in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology, but I most enjoy diagnostic neuroradiology and working with the neurosurgery, otolaryngology, and neurology staff here.  I took over as section chief in neuroradiology in January of 2000.

I also have interests in computer and network applications in radiology, PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications Systems), and medical coding, billing, and reimbursement policies.  I am currently the American College of Radiology representative to the Carrier Advisory Committee of the CMS in the state of Virginia, and I am also the Vice Chair of Finance for the Department of Radiology.

The division of neuroradiology at the University of Virginia presently consists of 3 full time faculty members, 1 part-time faculty, and 2 faculty members with subspecialty training in interventional neuroradiology.  We train diagnostic radiology residents, and also have a fellowship program.  Typically, our complement of fellows is 3 new fellows per year, 2 diagnostic fellows working in a two-year program, and an interventional neuroradiology fellow working in a three-year program.  One year of the interventional program is spent nearly exclusively in the lab.

Obviously, from the background of this page, neuroradiology is just a day job.  My other interests are flying(private pilot - single engine/land), photography, reading, war history, wine collecting, computers, music(all types), and spending time with friends and family.  You can follow the links to some of my favorite pages for each of these topics.  I have a particular love for Jamaica, and try to go there for a couple of weeks a year.  We try to spend two weeks in Negril every year, during the fall.  I got the chance to jump off the cliff at Rick's Cafe (see below).  We also got to see a few of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.
