Kids trying to decide what snack to buy outside a
school in Mirpur, Dhaka. Offerings include boiled eggs, starfruit,
"chotpoti" which is made from chickpeas, boiled potatos and a spicy
tamarind sauce, and "phuchka", a crispy shell filled with spicy
vegetables and tamarind sauce. When I was growing
up in Bangladesh, I enojoyed this food immensely. But after
living in the West for many years, I find that my resistance to
tropical bacteria has weakened and partaking of such delicacies
has dire consequences. 1991.
