Notes for Amanda Jane McGOUGH
Claud Davis said, “Mama always told people she petted me more than the whole family—and whooped me more!” She favored Claud, while Jessie favored Arlie, who, unlike Claud, was quick at his studies and would stand up and lead singings. Claud remembers Sundays at their house when there was a lot of company, and all the children were supposed to wait until the adults were done eating. The children would worry that the chicken would run out. He would go around back to the kitchen which had a sliding door. The door would slide open and his mother would slip him a chicken leg, which he would eat there while the other were playing in front.10

She was a member of Fern Springs Missionary Baptist Church.10
