Personal Info
Working with Professor Melvin N. Wilson, Ben is currently providing assessment-based intervention as part of a multi-site research project selected by the government-funded Home Visitation Program for implementation at the national level and aimed at reducing the onset of child behavior problems. As per Tom Dishion's Family Check-Up model, Ben utilizes behavioral and psychosocial assessments of participating families to inform sessions in which he subsequently provides evidence-based family therapy and parent skills training.
Ben is also interested in how skill acquisition may be socially facilitated more broadly, as well as with particular regard to the potential for social interactions to catalyze the self-regulatory behaviour associated with positive academic, relational, and mental health outcomes.
Ben has also been a SHANTI Fellow (2009-2010), and has volunteered his time for a CASTL project called MyTeachingPartner.
Before joining the department, Ben worked as a mental health counselor with a variety of populations and received training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy through the Western Massachusetts Department of Mental Health.
