I am a Ph.D. candidate
in the Economics
department at UVa.
I grew up in Oak Park, Illinois just west of Chicago and attended Oak Park &
River Forest HS. I have a brother David and a sister Alicia. My parents and
my brother still live in Oak Park
as do many of my close friends. I try to get back there at least a few
times a year and see them all. My sister lives in West Hollywood, CA
where she is pursuing her career as an actress and screenwriter.
I went on to do my
undergraduate work at Franklin
& Marshall College in Lancaster,
Pennsylvania where I concentrated
in Economics and Math. While at F&M I continued playing lacrosse
(at least for a little while) and was a member of the of the Chi Phi
Fraternity.
My wife and
I met here in Charlottesville
while she was an Anesthesia resident at UVa.
She is now a practicing Anesthesiologist at Martha Jefferson
Hospital, and lovingly
reminds me that she will always be the only ‘real’ doctor in the family. In addition to her professional success she
is also an accomplished photographer and chef. We have a wonderful son Charlie who is a
constant source of amusement.
I have a great
appreciation for the arts. Motion pictures, music, and literature are
foremost on my list but I am also fond of painting and photography. I
have a great admiration for those who are able to combine the necessary
creativity and vision with the industry and determination to make a living
producing such beautiful things. See
some of my favorites here.
I
am also a big sports fan. Lacrosse is far and away my favorite sport to
watch and play, but I am also a fan of NCAA Basketball, the Chicago
Bears and the Chicago
Cubs. And although I wouldn’t say that I’m too terribly good at any of
them, I also enjoy playing tennis, squash, and skiing. I tried
snowboarding but found skiing to be so much easier that I doubt I will ever
become an experienced snowboarder.
