University Press of Virginia review

The primary purpose of the Universiy Press of Virginia's website is to sell their books. They accomplish this with information on current and upcoming books. The site also allows users to directly purchase texts on-line. The site also promotes the University Press by giving information about the press and current news about the press.

The site is professional, and the sidebar is well used for linking. The links on the sidebar, however, do not have consistent buttons for the links. All the links would look more official if they were put on buttons. Possibily the secondary pages could be distinguished with different color buttons instead of the lack of buttons. Type, throughout, isn't consistent. That is an easy change that smooths out the look of the site. Other minor changes include the need to keep all GIFs in working order and possibly putting in a table so that text doesn't run to the edge of screen (making it easier to read).

The site gives good information on the texts and the press, but it does not have a section on jobs. This website would be a stop for those looking for employment. The addition of that information could be put along side the internship information.

Finally, the site creates solid credibility for the University Press in all ways except for the datedness of the site. For instance, in "Upcoming Books" February of 2001 is listed--dated by five months. I know this is probably based on the time restaints for the site. If that is the case, however, maybe this section needs to be listed so that it isn't as easy to assertain when the information becomes dated.
