The fortress is surrounded by the picturesque, rocky landscape of the Saxon Switzerland. Its walls rise defiantly 40 m high on a table mountain, with a 2.2 km long parapet on top sprawling over 9.5 hectares. All around are fantastic views of the sandstone landscape along the River Elbe, and the foothills of the Ore mountains.
