Welcome to the Atmospheric Sciences website of the Environmental Sciences department at the University of Virginia.

The atmospheric sciences program in the Department of Environmental Sciences focuses on relationships between atmospheric processes and the Earth's biosphere on a variety of spatial and temporal scales.  Both meteorological and climatological research is undertaken using theoretical and empirical approaches, field and laboratory analyses, and computer modeling.  Research areas include surface layer and mesoscale meteorology, convective storms, synoptic and dynamic climatology, biometeorology, climate change, trace gas transport, atmospheric chemistry, and air quality and visibility.
