VESTlab in the news! High gas prices have made the public very interested in our biofuel efforts using algae. Lisa and Andres were recently interviewed by two TV stations (WCAV19, WSET13) ,by NPR, click to see clips and featured in UVA Today.

Eleazer 'Shane' Resurreccion join VESTlab. After spending two years teaching high school chemistry Shane decided it was time to go back to school himself. With a background in chemical engineering and several years of work experience in his native Philippines, Shane will bring a lot to the algae project.

Green Engineering and Sustainability (CE 647). Andres is teaching a graduate course on sustainability in the Fall semester 2008.

Algal biofuel project wins UVA seed funding. As part of the University's new Energy Research at Virginia program, a competative proposal process identified the most promising energy related technologies being developed at UVA and VESTlab received a large piece of the $120,000 grant.

Andres has organized a special session with Fu Zhao (of Purdue) on Material Selection, Processing, Reuse and Recycle for Sustainable Manufacturing at the ASME International Conference on Manufacturing Science and Engineering in October 2008 at Northwestern Univiversity.
